Central University has announced the suspension of all remaining Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Week activities after reports emerged that five individuals are currently in the custody of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).
In a statement signed by the Registrar on behalf of the university’s management, the university said it had become aware of media reports concerning the individuals, who were reportedly arrested in connection with an incident that occurred during a programme associated with the SRC Week celebrations.
The university said it is engaging with NACOC and other relevant authorities to establish the facts and obtain verified information about the circumstances surrounding the matter.
Management indicated that investigations are still ongoing and urged the public to avoid speculation while due process takes its course.
“As investigations are ongoing, Management considers it important to avoid speculation and allow the due process of the law to take its course,” the statement said.
The university reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment while upholding standards of discipline, responsibility, and integrity among members of its community.
As a precautionary measure, Central University announced the immediate suspension of all outstanding SRC Week events pending a review of the incident and existing event management protocols. The institution said the decision was taken in the interest of ensuring order and safety on campus.
Management further assured students, staff, parents, alumni, and the general public that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities as efforts continue to establish the facts of the case.
The university added that it remains committed to its core mission of academic excellence, character development, and the holistic growth of its students.
