Over 50 aggrieved NPP polling-station executives threaten to quit after alleged disqualifications

More than 50 aggrieved polling-station executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Abeadze Kwekrom in the Mfantseman Constituency have threatened to resign from the party and blamed constituency chairman Nathaniel Owusu over the disqualification of some members during ongoing polling-station executive elections.

The executives say several qualified members were omitted from the electoral process, while others were allegedly disqualified without justification, paving the way for some candidates to run unopposed.

They warn that the situation has created deep divisions at the grassroots level and could damage the NPP’s prospects in future elections if not addressed immediately.

The group accused the Mfantseman Constituency Chairman, Mr Nathaniel Owusu, and the Constituency Vice-Chairperson, popularly known as Mama Dee, of orchestrating the disqualifications.

They allege the actions were intended to favour certain individuals and deny others the opportunity to contest the elections.

Speaking at a press conference held at Abeadze Kwekrom, the Polling-Station Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Ampim Aboagye, expressed disappointment at the conduct of the elections and warned that the party risks losing the support of many committed members in the area.

He said the NPP’s strength in Abeadze Kwekrom has largely been sustained through the sacrifices and hard work of dedicated grassroots members, and any attempt to sideline them would have serious consequences for the party’s future in the community.

Mr Aboagye further stressed that unless the constituency executives take immediate steps to organise a fair and transparent re-run of the polling-station elections, many members would have no option but to abandon the party.

"We have sacrificed our time, resources, and energy for the growth of the NPP in this community. We cannot accept a process that is unfair and intended to favour a select few.

"If justice is not done, we will leave the party for good," he stated.

The group has appealed to the national leadership of the NPP, including the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to intervene and ensure that the grievances of the affected members are addressed.

They have called on national executives to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disqualifications and to compel the constituency leadership to conduct a fresh election that gives all eligible members an equal opportunity to contest.

The aggrieved executives warned that failure to resolve the matter could result in mass defections and weaken the party’s support base in Abeadze Kwekrom and other parts of the Mfantseman Constituency.
