NIA begins mop-up registration exercise for children in Volta and Oti regions

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has begun a one-month mop-up registration exercise for Ghanaian children aged six to 14 years across selected districts in the Volta and Oti regions.

The exercise, which started on Thursday, June 4, 2026, is scheduled to end on July 3, 2026, following the completion of the main registration phase in the two regions.

According to the Authority, the mop-up initiative is intended to capture eligible children who missed the initial registration exercise and ensure they are included in the National Identity Register.

In a statement, the NIA expressed appreciation to parents, guardians, traditional authorities, the Ghana Education Service, the National Health Insurance Authority, the media, and other stakeholders for their support during the earlier phase of the exercise.

The registration is being conducted in 13 districts in the Volta Region and nine districts in the Oti Region, with designated schools and centres serving as registration points between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily.

The Authority stressed that the exercise is strictly reserved for Ghanaian children and warned against the submission of false information during registration.

It further cautioned that any individual who facilitates the registration of non-Ghanaians commits an offence and is liable to prosecution.

The NIA reaffirmed its commitment to building a secure, reliable, and inclusive National Identity Register that captures all eligible citizens to support national planning and service delivery.
