Ghana has welcomed home about 300 repatriated citizens from Johannesburg following xenophobic attacks and protests in South Africa, demanding action against undocumented foreigners.
Addressing the evacuees at Accra International Airport, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, assured them of the government's support for their reintegration as emotional reunions unfolded upon their arrival.

“Today’s welcome ceremony is fully packed, you are going to receive psychosocial support, we have psychologists, medical doctors, nurses here to take care of you,” he said.
Reaffirming the President's support for the returnees, the Minister noted that “President Mahama says that all of you should be given two special allowances, one for transportation to whether you leave or your hometown, and a special resettlement package to help you put your lives back on track."
