President John Mahama says every district across Ghana will receive a modern market under the government’s 24-hour economy initiative aimed at boosting trade, agriculture and job creation.
Speaking during the sod-cutting ceremony for a new market project in Bole, President Mahama disclosed that government plans to construct 261 markets nationwide.
“We’re building 261 of these markets. Every district in Ghana is going to get one of these markets and I’m proud to say that the Bole market is the biggest,” he stated.
According to the President, the markets will provide reliable trading centres for farmers and businesses while ensuring continuous economic activity within local communities.
He noted that the Bole market is expected to become one of the busiest in Ghana because of its strategic location.
The facility will include warehouses, cold stores, lockable shops, banking facilities, restaurants, daycare centres, police and fire posts, sanitation facilities and lorry terminals.
President Mahama said the markets will operate day and night as part of the government’s 24-hour economy policy designed to support businesses and create jobs.
He also announced additional development projects for the Savannah Region, including hospitals, roads, water systems and a proposed University of Science and Technology.
The President assured residents of government’s commitment to accelerating development in the region before the end of his mandate in 2028
