The Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) has arrested a woman accused of issuing death threats against President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama in a series of viral social media videos.
The suspect, identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, was arrested on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the arrest followed the circulation of multiple TikTok videos in which the suspect allegedly made derogatory remarks about the President and issued threats against his life.
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the Police said the videos went beyond insults, adding that some of the content was considered inciteful.
The Police further alleged that portions of the recordings contained calls encouraging others to cause harm not only to the President but also to First Lady Lordina Mahama.
Following the emergence of the videos on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, a joint team comprising the CVET and the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department launched investigations to trace the origin of the recordings and identify the suspect.
She was subsequently arrested and is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
Police say she is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days as legal processes continue.
The case highlights growing concerns over the use of social media platforms for alleged threats and incitement, as security agencies intensify monitoring of online content in Ghana.
