President John Dramani Mahama has called for fearless global health reforms and stronger African-led healthcare systems during his keynote address at the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
The President highlighted Ghana’s ongoing healthcare transformation agenda, including the expansion of primary healthcare access, the National Health Insurance Scheme and the MahamaCares initiative, which is aimed at improving specialised medical care for citizens.
“If we launch a reform process that is prohibited from recommending actual reform, we are merely performing a ritual,” President Mahama stated, urging world leaders to prioritise practical solutions, resilient supply chains and sustainable healthcare investments.
He argued that reform initiatives must be bold, actionable and centred on outcomes for people, rather than constrained by institutional caution or procedural inertia.
