The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has temporarily suspended three pharmacies from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) over suspected irregularities in claims and service transactions.
In a statement issued by NHIA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Victor Asare Bampoe, the affected facilities includes, DelDem Pharmacy Limited in Weija, Paramedica Pharmacy in Ablekuma and Desh Chemist in Amasaman.
This were barred from providing NHIS services with effect from May 14, 2026.
The action followed a routine verification exercise that raised concerns of possible fraud and abuse.
The Authority said the directive is part of efforts to protect the integrity and sustainability of the Scheme, and it urged members to access services from other accredited providers nationwide.
"These Pharmacies are not permitted to provide services or dispense medicines under the NHIS during the suspension.
"NHIS members who require pharmaceutical services are encouraged to seek care from other credentialed NHIS providers nationwide," it stated.
The NHIA emphasised that it will not tolerate fraudulent or abusive practices that undermine the Scheme’s sustainability and may deprive members of quality healthcare services.
It noted that a healthcare provider who defrauds or attempts to defraud the NHIS commits an offence and is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine, a term of imprisonment of not more than ten (10) years, or both.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability and the prudent use of public funds in delivering accessible, quality healthcare to all residents of Ghana.
