The National Labour Commission (NLC) has directed workers of the National Identification Authority (NIA) to immediately suspend their ongoing strike action following negotiations involving key stakeholders in the labour dispute.
The directive was issued after a meeting held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, between the Commission, the Public Services Workers’ Union, the National Identification Authority, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
The industrial action by NIA staff is linked to delays in the approval and implementation of migration reports affecting their conditions of service.
In a statement dated May 14, 2026, the National Labour Commission said the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission had been instructed to facilitate the approval and implementation of the migration report for NIA workers by the end of May 2026.
The Commission further ordered the striking workers to call off the strike immediately while processes toward resolving the matter continue.
“Fair Wages and Salaries Commission should facilitate the approval and implementation of the migration report on staff of the National Identification Authority by the end of May, 2026,” the statement said.
It added that, “The striking workers should call off the ongoing strike with immediate effect. The case is adjourned to 4th June, 2026, for reporting.”
The case has subsequently been adjourned to June 4, 2026, when parties are expected to update the Commission on progress made regarding the implementation of the migration report.
