GETFund briefs Asantehene on GHS400 million KNUST hospital equipment deal

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has officially briefed the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the award of a GHS400 million contract for the procurement of modern medical equipment for the new teaching hospital at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The briefing took place during a working visit to the Manhyia Palace on Friday, May 8, 2026, led by GETFund Administrator, Mr. Paul Adjei.

According to GETFund, the visit was intended to formally update the Asantehene on the successful award of the contract and ongoing efforts by the government and the Fund toward the completion of the major healthcare project.

The new teaching hospital project forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader agenda to strengthen tertiary healthcare infrastructure and position Ghanaian universities as centres of excellence.

During the engagement, Mr. Paul Adjei outlined the post-contract processes and implementation roadmap for the facility, which is expected to be equipped with state-of-the-art medical technologies to support clinical training, medical research, and specialised healthcare delivery.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed appreciation to President Mahama for prioritising healthcare and tertiary education infrastructure development.

The Asantehene also commended Mr. Paul Adjei and GETFund for their efforts toward the realization of the KNUST Teaching Hospital project, describing it as a major boost for healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region and across the country.

According to him, the establishment and equipping of the facility will improve access to quality healthcare services while strengthening medical education and research.

He further stressed the need for continued investment in modern healthcare infrastructure to support national development and improve healthcare outcomes.

Mr. Paul Adjei reaffirmed GETFund’s commitment to supporting strategic national institutions through targeted investments in education and healthcare infrastructure.

He assured the Asantehene that the Fund remains committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the project in line with government’s development agenda and KNUST’s long-term vision.

When completed, the KNUST Teaching Hospital is expected to serve as a major hub for clinical training, medical research, and specialised healthcare services in Ghana and the wider West African sub-region.
