Police arrest three for alleged narcotics possession, GH¢100,000 bribery attempt

The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in intelligence-led operation, seizing 1,600 parcels of suspected Indian Hemp and foil of a GH¢100,000 bribery attempt.

In a police statement, the Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID) intercepted a Hyundai Rhino truck with registration number GR 5724-15 near Krobo Girls Senior High School in Akosombo-Bonya following a tip-off about narcotics on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Officers tracked the vehicle to a secluded spot near Atua Government Hospital, where suspects were transferring sacks from the Hyundai truck into a Howo Zonda tipper truck (GN 7948-21).

The initial group fled into the bush, allowing the police to secure both vehicles and the cargo.

Shortly after the seizure, suspect Solomon Tettey, a 39-year-old welder and resident of Atua, approached the officers claiming ownership of the vehicles and the illegal consignment, which he stated was headed to Nigeria.

As investigations were ongoing, the police reported that suspect Solomon Tettey offered a bribe of GH¢100,000. The suspect then transferred GH¢90,000 via mobile money and handed over GH¢10,000 in cash as police personnel wanted to secure evidence of the bribery.

Upon receiving the funds, backup from the Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) and police from Odumase moved in to arrest suspect Solomon Tettey.

Meanwhile, the other two accomplices, Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were later apprehended after reporting to the Regional Headquarters.

According to the police, the suspects and all exhibits have been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (RCID) for further processing and investigation.

The Ghana Police Service also reassured its commitment to integrity and the relentless fight against drug trafficking syndicates in the region.
