The Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for 2027 will officially begin taking shape on May 19, 2026, when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducts the draw to determine group opponents, including those of the Ghana national football team.
CAF has confirmed that the qualification series will run from September 2026 to March 2027, featuring 48 national teams divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group will secure automatic qualification for the tournament.
The final tournament, the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, is scheduled for June 19 to July 17, 2027, and will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in what has been described as a historic East African collaboration.
For Ghana, the qualifiers present a crucial opportunity to return to Africa’s biggest football stage after missing out on the previous edition in Morocco. The Black Stars are expected to mount a strong campaign as they seek to re-establish themselves among the continent’s elite sides.
Ghana national football team are four-time African champions, but their last continental triumph dates back to 1982. That long wait continues to fuel expectations and pressure as the team prepares for another qualification journey.
The draw later this month will set the tone for Ghana’s path to the tournament, with fans eagerly anticipating their group-stage opponents and the road ahead.
