President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the MT Asharami Ghana, a 40,000 cubic metre Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carrier, during his working visit to South Korea.
This significant initiative is aimed at strengthening Ghana’s clean energy supply chain while advancing the country’s clean cooking and energy access agenda.

The newly commissioned dual-fuel vessel, owned by the leading global energy and infrastructure conglomerate Sahara Group, will enhance LPG supply reliability, reduce logistics constraints, and improve coordination across Ghana’s LPG distribution system.
As a result, it will deliver greater efficiency and lower emissions throughout the value chain.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Ulsan, South Korea, President Mahama described the vessel as “a significant milestone in strengthening the infrastructure that underpins the global LPG supply chain.”

He noted that the expanded shipping capacity enhances supply security, reliability, and market efficiency.
"I wish to commend the leadership, technical expertise, and strategic foresight demonstrated by Sahara Group and all the partners involved in bringing this project to fruition.

"Your commitment demonstrates what can be achieved when innovation, investment, and collaboration come together to bridge infrastructure gaps, deepen regional markets, and unlock sustainable economic opportunities across Africa," he stated.
The Executive Director of Sahara Group, Wale Ajibade, also emphasised that the vessel reflects Sahara’s long-standing commitment to Ghana and Africa’s clean energy future.

He further reiterated that through integrated investments across shipping, storage, and distribution, Sahara Group is building resilient energy systems that improve lives, protect the environment, and support sustainable economic growth.
