The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has signed a GH¢8.4 million agreement with Ghana Water Limited (GWL) to rehabilitate the Bonsa, Daboase and Sekyere Heman water supply systems in the Western and Central regions.
The intervention is aimed at restoring and improving water production capacity in the affected areas, ensuring reliable access to potable water for thousands of residents who have endured years of operational challenges.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi Esq., said the Board approved the project after conducting an independent technical assessment to ascertain its viability and impact.
He noted that the initiative reflects GoldBod’s commitment to responsible mining practices, environmental sustainability and community development.
According to him, the rehabilitation of the water systems forms part of broader efforts to address the environmental and social consequences of mining activities while supporting critical public infrastructure.
Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Adam Mutawakilu, expressed appreciation to GoldBod for what he described as a timely intervention.
He said the rehabilitation works would help restore water production, enhance operational efficiency and improve service delivery to the communities served by the three water systems.
Mr Mutawakilu added that the project would significantly contribute to addressing longstanding water supply challenges in the beneficiary areas.
The partnership between GoldBod and Ghana Water Limited underscores a shared commitment to investing in sustainable solutions that protect the environment, strengthen essential infrastructure and improve the quality of life for citizens.
The rehabilitation works are expected to boost access to safe drinking water while supporting socio-economic development in the Western and Central regions.
