President John Dramani Mahama, has cut sod for the construction of the Tema Integrated Industrial Park (TIIP), to accelerate Ghana’s industrial transformation and strengthen the country’s role as a regional manufacturing and export hub.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations and Communications Update of the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, (MOTAI), President Mahama said this initiative is designed to host manufacturing, processing, logistics and export-related activities.
He noted that TIIP will expand industrial capacity, drive value addition, promote import substitution and integrate local businesses into regional and global value chains under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The president urged project partners to commit to delivering a modern industrial enclave that honours the long-term vision of Ghana’s founding leader, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, for Tema as a national development anchor.
“Industrialisation is no longer a policy option; it is an economic necessity,” he said.
The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, also described TIIP as a strategic investment that will position Ghana as a leading industrial hub in West Africa.
She announced that Cabinet has approved four sector-specific policies to support the park and attract investors: the Ghana Textiles and Garments Manufacturing Policy, the Ghana Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Policy, the Automotive Components Manufacturing Policy, and the National Agribusiness Policy (2026–2036).
Mrs Ofosu-Adjare pledged government support and coordination with stakeholders to ensure successful execution and maximise the park’s long-term impact.
“These frameworks will provide regulatory certainty, attract anchor industries and create a sustainable ecosystem for industrial growth and job creation,” she said.
According to MOTAI, the TIIP will create more than 4,000 direct jobs and stimulate extensive downstream economic activity across multiple sectors.
The project is being developed through a partnership between TDC Ghana Limited, the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) and ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms.
