NAGRAT donates sanitary pads, exercise books and pens to support menstrual hygiene campaign in Mfantseman

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has donated sanitary pads, exercise books and pens to support a menstrual hygiene campaign in the Mfantseman Municipality.

The initiative, organised in collaboration with Regional NAGRAT Coordinator Madam Edwina Gladys Thompson Donkor in the Central Region, aims to strengthen the educational system and help combat teenage pregnancy within the district.

The donation was distributed under the H.E. President Mahama initiative and is intended to assist schoolgirls who struggle to afford essential sanitary products.

By providing these items, the campaign seeks to ensure that young women in schools can continue their education without interruption and reduce their reliance on financial support from men, which can sometimes lead to early sexual activity and teenage pregnancy.

The timing of the donation also coincides with the approaching International Menstrual Hygiene Day, underscoring its importance.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Mrs Thompson Donkor emphasised the need to support young ladies with these hygiene items and also advised young men against engaging in early sex, which contributes to teenage pregnancy.

This campaign aligns with broader efforts in the Mfantseman Municipality to promote menstrual hygiene awareness and address issues related to adolescent reproductive health.

The proactive approach seeks to empower young women and foster a healthier environment for their educational and personal development.

Mrs Tagoe Nakor Beatrice, Public Health Nurse at Mercy Roman Hospital, commended NAGRAT leaders for their significant donations aimed at uplifting the youth of Mfantseman schools.

Mrs Tagoe stressed that the initiative is firmly focused on building a brighter future for the schoolchildren, moving beyond divisive issues.

"Our true mission is the development the Mfantseman school children, she emphasizing the importance of encouraging and financially supporting young people.

"We aim to alleviate their burdens and guide them towards healthier choices, helping to prevent early sexual engagement and the resulting challenges of teenage pregnancy."

Mr Stephen Ohene, Regional Organiser of NAGRAT, emphasised that the efforts resonate deeply with this vision and demonstrate a profound care for the well‑being and future of Mfantseman Municipality children.

According to him, their contributions are set to make a tangible difference, with sanitary pads and books earmarked for distribution to schools in time for International Menstrual Hygiene Day.

He noted that this thoughtful gesture ensures vital resources are provided to foster both health and educational advancement within the community.
