Government pursues economic transformation to boost Ghana’s resilience and competitiveness

The Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has said the government is pursuing a broad economic transformation agenda to reposition Ghana for long‑term resilience and global competitiveness.

Speaking at the ACI World Congress 2026, he emphasised that the strategy will focus on value addition, innovation and productivity to move the economy away from dependence and vulnerability towards sustainable growth.

"We want to build an economy where agriculture becomes commercially integrated and export oriented, where digital finance reaches every community and where financial market becomes engines for national transformation rather than merely channel for liquidity management," he stated.

He added that the government wants financial markets to become engines of innovation and enterprise that drive long‑term prosperity, enabling young people to build technology companies instead of only seeking jobs.

He said the vision includes local industries competing internationally, commercially integrated and export‑oriented agriculture, and digital finance reaching every community rather than serving merely as a channel for liquidity management.

He urged stakeholders and relevant institutions to help build the required transformation, stressing that none of it can happen without a strong and sophisticated financial market.

"But let me emphasised this clearly none of these transformation can happen without strong and sufficicated financial market," he said.
