The Government of Togo has announced the immediate abolition of entry visa requirements for all African nationals holding valid national passports, in a move aimed at strengthening continental integration and facilitating the free movement of people across Africa.
In an official communiqué issued on Monday, May 18, Togo’s Minister of Security, Colonel Calixte Batossie Madjoulba, stated that the decision was taken by the President of the Council and takes effect immediately.
Under the new policy, citizens of all African states will be allowed to enter Togolese territory without a visa for stays of up to 30 days.
According to the Government, the measure reflects Togo’s continued commitment to promoting African unity, deepening regional cooperation, and encouraging the free movement of people and goods throughout the continent.
Authorities described the reform as part of a broader strategy to position Togo as a regional hub for business, services, culture and human exchange in Africa.
The Government also noted that the initiative aligns with the country’s vision of modernisation, openness, and increased attractiveness to investors and travellers.
The communiqué further emphasised Togo’s commitment to Pan‑African ideals, continental solidarity, and regional integration frameworks related to mobility across Africa.
Despite the visa exemption, the Ministry of Security clarified that travellers must still comply with all existing immigration, security and public‑health regulations applicable at the country’s borders.
Officials stated that pre‑arrival registration on the Government’s online travel platform remains mandatory.
Travellers are required to complete a travel declaration on voyage.gouv.tg at least 24 hours before arrival in order to obtain a travel‑clearance document, which must be presented at border entry points.
The Government stressed that the travel document remains an essential administrative and security requirement and that the visa waiver does not exempt travellers from laws governing irregular entry, illegal stay or national security measures.
Relevant Government agencies and border authorities have been instructed to implement the new policy across all land, air and sea entry points.
The Ministry of Security called on stakeholders and the wider public to support what it described as a major reform that will enhance Togo’s influence and leadership in African integration and cooperation.
