Two suspected robbers have been shot dead, with four others arrested after police dismantled a robbery gang responsible for a series of violent attacks in the Upper West Region.
In a police statement, the operation was carried out by a special intelligence team on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
The suspects identified as Awudu Kasim, Malik Baako, Mohammed Amidu, and Wadud Abdu were arrested from their hideout at Zuarungu.
The Police noted that a search at the location retrieved a G3 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, believed to have been concealed in the storage compartment of a motorbike that suspect Samsudeen Mohammed and an accomplice known as "DJ", currently at large, had robbed from a victim.
Police also found seven other motorbikes suspected of being stolen.
According to police, the suspects admitted during interrogation that they had been involved in a series of robbery attacks across the region and other areas.
"These include an attack on 4th February 2026 along the Zuarungu–Kongo road, during which a bus driver, Ussif Abdul Razak, sustained gunshot injuries and lost three fingers, and a separate attack on a cargo truck driver, Mohammed Ibrahim, on the same stretch.
They also admitted to a robbery at the Kejetia mining site at Gbane on 28th March 2026, where a miner, Atani Mark, was robbed of cash and gold, as well as other incidents in the area," part of the statement indicated.
Police say two suspects, Samsudeen Mohammed and Seidu Safianu were shot during the operation and later died from their injuries, disclosing that their bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Authorities added that the four suspects are in custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to arrest other accomplices, including “DJ”, who is still at large.
The Ghana Police Service assured the public that all suspects involved will be arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.
