The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) is preparing to commence critical transmission reinforcement works in Kumasi
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, April 27, 2026, the minister noted that the move is aimed at strengthening power supply in the Ashanti Region.
According to him, the works are expected to begin in June, after ongoing activities are completed, explaining that the decision to delay the start slightly is to ensure current interventions are fully concluded.
"The Ghana Grid company is also preparing to commence critical transmission reinforcement works in commence in Kumasi in June."

Mr. Jinapo mentioned that the work on selected distribution lines is set to commence this week, forming part of broader measures to stabilise electricity supply in the metropolis.
He added that Senate Energy Limited is airlifting a critical component expected to arrive in the country shortly, which will be deployed to support power generation in Kumasi.
"To further strengthen the system in Kumasi, Senate Energy Limited is airlifting a critical component, which is expected to arrive here tomorrow and will be transported to Kumasi to further strengthen the generation network in partnership with GRIDCo," Mr. Jinapor indicated.
The Minister reiterated that efforts are underway to restore disrupted systems, replace outdated infrastructure, and build a more resilient power network.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to delivering reliable electricity supply across the country.
