GRIDCo has confirmed the outbreak of fire at the Akosombo Substation, which has caused disruption to operations and power generation.
The incident occurred on Monday, April 23, 2026, at approximately 2:01 p.m, at the Akosombo Dam Powerhouse in Ghana’s Eastern Region.
In a statement, GRIDCo said the incident has caused a power supply disruption, although it has affected some parts of the country.
It disclosed that emergency response teams have been deployed to the site and are working around the clock to assess the situation and initiate immediate remedial actions.
However, it urged that a full evaluation is currently underway to determine the extent of the impact and to enable technical teams to commence processes to restore normal operations as swiftly as possible.
The statement assured the public that its technical teams are actively working to manage the situation, and that every effort is being made to stabilise the system and minimise disruptions.
The statement affirmed that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available, but urged the public to remain calm and assured that the situation is under control.
