One shop has been burnt while more than 20 different shops were affected by a furious inferno at Kejetia Dubai Market.
According to a source, the incident began at about 8:25 a.m. today when a shop selling matches, candles, silver shine and other items in Shop No. F2230 caught fire at Market Gate 4.
In an interview with the President of the Federation of Kumasi Traders, Nana Akwasi Prempeh, he said they had complained about the insufficient water pipes in the market.
He therefore called on the market authorities and the government to resource the fire station at the market and to put in place proper security measures to prevent any future occurrence.
"We actually heard there's smoke coming out from the market so when we got down, then we saw that Shop No. F2230 and is a shop they sell matches, candles, mortal, silver and others things in that shop.
"Ghana National Fire Service has not revealed the cause of the fire and we'll thank the fire service for their immediate intervention but we the market sellers we also have part to play, the pieces of boxes on their shops, we'll see to it that everyone clears his or her shops," he explained.
