National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has assured that the Boankra Inland Port project will be completed before the end of the party’s four-year term.
The Boankra Inland Port project was first conceived during the John Agyekum Kuffour administration. It began around late 2007, but stalled in 2008.
Construction was officially relaunched when former President Nana Akufo-Addo cut the sod on November 5, 2020.
Actual work by the current contractor, Justmoh Construction Limited, started on October 10, 2022.
The US$330 million project is sited on 413 acres in the Ejisu Municipality in the Ashanti Region. Phase 1 includes storage, a security zone, roads, and the terminal.
Speaking during an engagement with chiefs and residents of the Ejisu Municipality, Mr Asiedu Nketiah stated that completing the port will be his major achievement as National Chairman.
He noted that the project will boost trade, create jobs, and ease congestion at Ghana’s seaports when operational.
"Now president Mahama has made me the head of Harbour Authority so I have also taken Boankra Inland Port upon myself and before my tenure will be over and if I don't have anything for Asanteman, I have to say we've done with the Inland Port for working to help Asanteman," he promised.
