The High Court of Ghana, sitting in General Jurisdiction 2, has granted bail to the Sunyani East Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party, Abubakar Yakubu, popularly referred to as Baba Amando, after he spent two weeks in custody following a remand ordered by an Accra Circuit Court.
The court released him on bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties. It also directed him to report to the police once every two weeks as investigations continue.
Mr. Abubakar Yakubu was detained on Monday, April 13, 2026, in connection with an ongoing probe into allegations of offensive conduct, false publication, and the dissemination of statements said to be capable of provoking fear and panic.
His earlier remand by an Accra Circuit Court on April 14 also drew attention, as authorities stepped up efforts to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged wrongdoing.
While no formal charges have yet been presented, some sources suggest the arrest may be linked to claims of threats made against a judge at the Adentan Circuit Court, an issue that has raised concerns among legal and governance stakeholders.
However, Mr. Abubakar Yakubu also alleged to have shared derogatory images of the President and some individuals within the ruling administration.
The matter continues as investigators seek to establish the full facts, and the conditions imposed by the court are expected to ensure Yakubu remains available to support the ongoing investigation.
