Gov't launches comprehensive Free Primary Health Care Programme

The Government has outlined a comprehensive package under the Free Primary Health Care Programme, detailing a wide range of preventive and essential health services to be delivered nationwide.

The service offerings span basic screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and non-communicable diseases, alongside cancer care, mental health support, and child and newborn health services. Maternal care, family planning, and nutrition support also form a core part of the intervention.

The programme further integrates disease prevention measures, including screenings for HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and hepatitis, while promoting healthy lifestyles, sanitation, and hygiene practices.

With additional focus on menstrual health, counselling, and community-based outreach, the initiative is positioned as a people-centred approach aimed at removing financial barriers and strengthening Ghana’s drive towards universal health coverage.
