Ministry of Health to add more beds to tackle ‘No Bed Syndrome' - Akandoh

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has said the Ministry will provide more beds in addition to those already available at various health facilities.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series, he emphasised that the initiative is intended to address the issues of “no bed syndrome” affecting health facilities and Ghana as a whole.

“No bed syndrome I tried to tell you what we have done so far, we are looking at adding more beds to the existing health facilities,” he stated.

He added that the Ministry will establish a facility to support emergency services and also create a centre at the Accra Regional Hospital.

He noted that further recommendations will be produced in due course and implemented accordingly.

The Minister indicated that the Ministry will use Information Technology (IT) to monitor bed availability by counting and tracking beds, including “backholding” them.

“We are going to use the IT to monitor the beds, what we are doing at the moment is counting of the beds and backholding the beds, we are creating a centre at the Redge hospital that's where we are creating the centre so that is one aspect, we are going to go to the Parliament for legislation on emergency issues,” he uttered.
