The Tamale Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers, including two Level 400 students of the University for Development Studies (UDS) at the Nyankpala and Dungu campuses.
A search of their hostels led to the recovery of a pistol, a jackknife, machetes, an iPhone 17 valued at GH₵21,000, and a Haojue motorbike worth GH₵19,000.
The victim reported to police at the Bolga-Nasia checkpoint that he was attacked while relieving himself in nearby bushes. He said the assailants, armed with a pistol and a knife, robbed him of his iPhone 17 Pro and motorbike.
According to the complainant, he later tracked the stolen phone, which revealed the suspects were heading toward the North East Region. Acting on this intelligence, police at the checkpoint intercepted and arrested one suspect with the motorbike.
Further investigations and searches at the suspects’ hostels led to the arrest of the remaining two and the recovery of additional stolen items.
The suspects—identified as Peter Abugri (24), Asuma Shaini (22), and Yakubu Wakasu (19)—have been charged and remanded into prison custody. The case has been adjourned to April 19, 2026.
