8 rescuers recruited into security services after Sikaman–Brofoyedu helicopter crash, NDC Chairman confirms

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has confirmed that eight residents who assisted during the Sikaman–Brofoyedu helicopter crash have been recruited into the security services and given other benefits.

Speaking during a thank‑you tour of Adansi and surrounding areas, specifically Obuasi West, the National Chairman said the residents had played a crucial role in recovering the bodies of eight prominent individuals, including the Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Environment Minister, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who were on board the ill‑fated helicopter.

The National Chairman affirmed that the government has also provided GH¢100,000 to the rescuers and GH¢20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council to support traditional rites.

"Because of the incident that happened which the youth helped, we stood there and promised on their braved that when we go we'll sit with the government that if we need soldiers we look for those who are brave.

"So the incident that happened where it got at a point soldiers were not able to stand it which the youth in the town were able to stand it and some of these people deserve to be trained to be come soldiers.

"When I was coming, Bregya gave me a message that these people out of it, eight people have been taken to be trained and these people, I don't know their names to be mentioned here," he mentioned.

He also said the government has pledged to complete community centres and improve road infrastructure in the area.
