'Galamsey has worsened under NDC, party misled Ghanaians to win power' - Ahiagbah

The Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has stated that galamsey has worsened under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

Speaking to the media, he accused the NDC of misleading Ghanaians by giving the impression that they could tackle galamsey.

He noted that, before the NDC left office in 2016, they described the problem as intractable and unable to be solved it, a stance he said reflected their former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Inusah Fuseini, who had effectively given up on the fight.

"Galamsey is worse under and you can't blame the NDC because they said it then only to win power, before they left in 2016 they themselves said that they couldn't solve the galamsey that the galamsey problem was an intractable problem," he stated.

He warned that chemicals from galamsey activities pose a threat to the people's health, contaminating the vegetables and fish we eat because we cannot always trace which rivers they come from.

Mr Ahiagbah said he cannot understand how the NDC convinced Ghanaians to believe they could deal effectively with galamsey.

He argued the evidence is clear indicating that, the NDC’s promises do not match their delivery in government, with the problem persisting and demonstrably getting worse.

"So how they managed to trick Ghanaians to believe, remorsely believe that the NDC can actually deal with galamsey is beyond me but somehow they tricked all of us to be thinking that oh wow the NDC can fix it and the evidence is here for us to see," he uttered.
