NDC Does Not Take Votes For Granted - Asiedu Nketiah

Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the party remains mindful of the responsibility that comes with the mandate Ghanaians handed it in the December 2024 general elections.

He acknowledged the strong showing of the NDC in Wenchi in both the presidential and parliamentary contests, describing the support as encouraging and reassuring.

Mr Nketiah made these comments while addressing community leaders and party supporters at Nkonsia in the Wenchi Constituency during his “Thank You” tour of the Bono Region.

The two-day tour, which commenced in Nkonsia in the Wenchi Municipality, is intended to deepen engagement with traditional authorities, opinion leaders and party faithful, as part of efforts to strengthen the NDC’s bond with the grassroots and consolidate its support base.

He praised the people of Wenchi for the overwhelming support given to the NDC in the 2024 elections and appealed to them to continue backing the party to help accelerate development and restore the area to its former status.

Mr Nketiah emphasised that reviving Wenchi was a shared responsibility, noting that although the task ahead may be challenging, it required sustained focus and commitment from all stakeholders.

He further indicated that government was aware of the deplorable state of roads in the area, a situation that led to the award of contracts for the Wenchi–Wa road, the inclusion of the Wenchi–Sampa road under the “Big Push” initiative, and plans to rehabilitate the Nsawkaw–Berekum road.

He said the completion of these road projects would significantly improve connectivity and drive development across Wenchi and its surrounding communities. The Member of Parliament for the Wenchi Constituency, Alhaji Haruna Seidu, said the area had seen notable improvements within the first year of the current administration.

Also speaking at the event, the Wenchi Akyeamehene, Nana Damoah Koasane Adusi Poku Kafabaae IV, commended the government’s development efforts and urged authorities to place greater emphasis on tackling youth unemployment as part of broader socio-economic development measures.
