Goldbod laptop purchase wasteful – Richard Sumah criticises GH₵332,000 expenditure

A leading member of the United Party (UP), Mr. Richard Sumah, has questioned the decision by Goldbod to purchase 15 laptops at a total cost of GH₵332,000, describing the move as extravagant and unnecessary.

Mr. Sumah argued that Goldbod is not an information technology (IT) firm and therefore had no justification for acquiring such expensive laptops.

According to him, the company could have opted for more affordable machines suited to its operational needs.

“The only challenge I have is that Goldbod is not an IT firm. There’s no need to buy laptops costing GH₵21,500 each just for creating folders, uploading, and downloading documents,” he stated during an interview on GHone.

He further contended that both the NPP and NDC governments could not claim ignorance of such procurement practices, noting that political interests often influence decisions of this nature.

Mr. Sumah added that the money could have been used more efficiently, explaining that the GH₵332,000 spent on 15 laptops could have purchased at least 30 budget-friendly computers.

He opined that this approach could reduce wasteful spending and ensure better value for public funds.
