Black Queens triumph over Russia to take lead in Pink Ladies Cup

Ghana’s national women's team, the Black Queens, continued their relentless form in the UAE with a dominant 4-0 victory over Russia on Tuesday, 3 March.

This win, their second consecutive success at the Pink Ladies Cup, propels Kim Lars Björkegren’s side to the top of the table and underscores their status as serious contenders ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Black Queens wasted no time in asserting their authority at the Pink Ladies Cup. It took just eight minutes for Stella Nyamekye to break the deadlock, silencing the Russian side with a composed and clinical finish following a sustained period of pressure.

While Russia struggled to find their rhythm, Ghana doubled their advantage in the 17th minute. Doris Boaduwaa finished off a fluid team move to make it 2-0, before the attacker struck again in the 33rd minute to claim her brace.

This two-goal haul from Boaduwaa ensured the Black Queens headed into the half-time interval with a commanding 3-0 lead and total control of the midfield.

Russia attempted a spirited fightback in the second half, searching for ways to penetrate the Ghanaian lines. However, they found no joy against a disciplined and organised Black Queens defence that refused to buckle under pressure.

Even while defending their lead, Ghana remained a constant threat on the counter-attack.

The emphatic scoreline was completed in the 88th minute when Patience Ajegipena Zakaria found the net, making it four and capping off what was a tactical masterclass from the Black Queens.

With six points from two matches, Ghana now sits at the summit of the tournament standings. The Pink Ladies Cup serves as a vital preparation ground for the upcoming 2026 WAFCON, and on this evidence, the Black Queens are hitting peak form at the perfect time.

Ghana will look to maintain their 100% record and secure the trophy when they face Tanzania in their final fixture on Friday, March 6, 2026.
