Power Ghana Ltd has been officially commissioned by the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor. He described it as a substantial advancement for Ghana’s energy sector and industrial development.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the commissioning ceremony held on February 25, 2026, Dr Jinapor stated that the facility represents an important milestone in strengthening Ghana’s electricity value chain.
He indicated that the establishment of the plant opens doors for innovation, job creation, and increased local participation in the energy industry.
According to the Minister, accurate and reliable metering is central to efficiency, transparency, and revenue assurance across the electricity supply chain, from generation and transmission to distribution and consumption.
Dr Jinapor stressed that without proper metering, utilities cannot effectively account for electricity supplied, accurately measure losses, or ensure fair billing for consumers.
He noted that for many years, Ghana has relied heavily on imported meters to meet domestic demand. This dependency has led to capital outflows and limited local involvement in a key segment of the energy sector.
“With the establishment of MBH Power’s manufacturing plant here in Ghana, we have taken a bold step towards local production,” he stated.
Dr Jinapor added that this initiative will reduce reliance on imports, retain economic value within the country, create skilled and semi-skilled jobs, and build local technical capacity through technology transfer.
He emphasised that local meter manufacturing aligns with the government’s reform agenda, which focuses on improved metering, reducing commercial and technical losses, enhancing revenue mobilisation, and expanding electricity access.
He also commended MBH Power’s management for their confidence in Ghana, officially declaring the facility open. Dr Jinapor called it more than just a business venture but a strategic partnership aimed at building a resilient, efficient, and financially sustainable energy sector to drive national development.
