Kwame Jantuah calls for restructuring of COCOBOD

Member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah Esq., has stated that, for Ghana’s cocoa sector to transform, it should start with a comprehensive restructuring of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

During an interview on GHOne TV, Mr. Jantuah indicated that the government needs to modernise COCOBOD to better support the cocoa industry.

“Things have to change; I think it will start from restructuring the COCOBOD, It will start by having a syncing fund for farmers; it will start by making the farmer important,” he said.

He further emphasised the necessity of establishing a syncing fund for cocoa farmers, which would be utilised when market prices drop.

“We should have a syncing fund for farmers, so that when prices drop, that syncing fund is used to support the cocoa farmer”, he explained.

“Right now for me, the most important instrument in cocoa is the cocoa farmer,” he added.

He highlighted that “a commodity that has looked after the country for over 60 years should not be in this state,” urging immediate action to revitalise the cocoa sector for the benefit of farmers and the country as a whole.
