Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has condemned the recent circulation of sexually explicit videos on social media, asserting that the act was deliberate and aimed at tarnishing the image of Ghanaian women.
Speaking during a recent performance, Wendy Shay called on Ghanaians to unite in seeking accountability for the Russian national she believes is responsible for releasing the videos. She stressed that Ghanaian women should not be labeled or shamed for the actions of others.
“The Russian behind the explicit videos did this intentionally,” Wendy Shay stated, urging the public to focus on the alleged perpetrator rather than blaming the women affected. She emphasised that such situations can happen to anyone and that the victims deserve empathy, compassion, and support.
The singer also highlighted societal mindsets that may have influenced some young women’s decisions, particularly beliefs instilled during childhood that place foreigners above locals. She noted that such perceptions have affected how some women approach relationships and opportunities.
Wendy Shay concluded by appealing for national unity, emotional support for the victims, and prayers for their healing, encouraging Ghanaians to reflect on the broader social issues raised by the incident rather than perpetuate stigma.
