Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is leading Ghana’s delegation to the 2026 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, as the country looks to move beyond stabilisation.
The meetings run from October 12 to 18, ahead of the 2027 Budget, in which Dr. Forson is expected to unveil the New Economy, the government’s blueprint for the next phase of development.
In Bangkok, he is expected to hold bilateral meetings and multilateral discussions with world leaders, senior officials of international financial institutions and fellow finance ministers.
His programme includes talks with the IMF’s leadership, senior World Bank officials and other multilateral institutions, as well as development and financial partners.
This is the first Annual Meetings held outside Washington, D.C., since Dr. Forson became Finance Minister in 2025.
Ghana arrives with positive assessments from the Bretton Woods institutions for its progress in restoring economic stability after the 2022 crisis.
The government now aims to build an economy that can sustain growth and deliver lasting development. The New Economy blueprint is expected to set that direction, while the 2027 Budget will detail how ambitions become policy and action.
Dr. Forson signalled the shift in his 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review presentation. “Stabilisation was never the destination. It was the price of entry,” he said.
