The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), in collaboration with other stakeholders, has supervised the disposal of a 40ft container of non-compliant imported diapers at the Vigour Safe Disposal Site, Shai Hills.
The authority responsible for regulating food and drug products noted that the move was aimed at preventing unsafe products from entering the Ghanaian market.
According to the Authority, the container, which contained loose, unpackaged and unhygienic bale diapers imported from Spain, was intercepted during a joint inspection at the Tema Port involving the FDA, the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Customs Division and National Security.
They indicated that the disposal was undertaken at the importer’s expense, who was also required to pay the applicable statutory fines.
The FDA also urged importers to obtain all required regulatory approvals before importing products into the country, stressing the importance of complying with safety and regulatory requirements.
