The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally acclaimed Baba Ali Yussif as its Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
The decision follows extensive consultations by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) with key stakeholders to identify a consensus candidate with strong prospects of winning the seat.
As part of the process, the NEC set up a Candidate Search Committee chaired by former NPP General Secretary, John Boadu. After wide-ranging engagements with stakeholders in the Ayawaso East Constituency and the Greater Accra Region, the committee unanimously recommended Baba Ali Yussif, who currently serves as the NPP’s Ayawaso East Constituency Secretary.
Based on the committee’s report, the party on Sunday, February 8, 2026, convened an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting alongside a Delegates Conference in the constituency, where Baba Ali Yussif was unanimously acclaimed as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party called on its members, supporters and sympathizers to unite behind Baba Ali Yussif ahead of the by-election. The NPP also appealed to the people of Ayawaso East to vote massively for its candidate, describing him as the party’s best chance to secure victory and provide effective representation for the constituency.
