Ghana Gas CEO Judith Adjobah Blay has urged African governments and investors to accelerate spending on gas infrastructure to unlock the continent’s natural gas potential.
Ms. Blay said stronger investment in processing, transportation, storage and distribution infrastructure is essential to connect Africa’s gas resources to markets, industries and power generation. She made the call at Africa Oil Week (AOW) 2026, where she participated as a panellist on the theme, “Building the Backbone: Midstream Gas Infrastructure as the Link Between Supply and Demand.”
The discussion examined the role of midstream infrastructure in linking gas production with end users while improving the resilience and efficiency of Africa’s energy value chain.
Ms. Blay stressed that Africa’s substantial gas resources alone would not deliver their full economic value without the infrastructure required to move gas from production sites to consumers.
She also called for deeper partnerships among African governments, national oil and gas companies, private-sector investors and development institutions to mobilise the capital needed to expand gas infrastructure across the continent. “Africa has the gas resources. The next frontier is building the infrastructure that connects those resources to the people, industries and economies that need them,” she said.
The issue is particularly relevant to Ghana as the country seeks to strengthen natural gas’ role in energy security, industrialisation and broader economic development.
Ms. Blay’s participation at AOW 2026 also provided an opportunity to highlight Ghana’s experience in the midstream gas sector while promoting greater regional cooperation and investment.
