Popular skit maker Deacon Famous has finally spoken out about his highly publicised fallout with actress Ekene Umenwa, a year after the controversy shook their once-close friendship.

In his statement, Deacon revealed that his decision to remain silent at the time was intentional, as he wanted to protect his peace and focus on his wedding. He mentioned that his wife advised him not to respond publicly, and he chose to avoid unnecessary drama during such an important period in his life.

He clarified that, contrary to widespread rumours, his wife had no personal issues with Ekene and was never involved in the conflict. He described her as calm and uninterested in social media disputes, emphasising that the misunderstanding was strictly between him and the actress.

Deacon explained that the tension began after a private conversation with Ekene, during which she allegedly spoke negatively about someone believed to be his ex-girlfriend, claiming that the person had bad intentions toward his wedding.

He expressed his surprise when she publicly celebrated the same individual the following day with affectionate birthday wishes.

Seeking clarity, he reached out to Ekene privately, but instead of resolving the issue, she allegedly shared screenshots of his message with others, including her husband and a priest. He expressed disappointment that the priest, whom he expected to remain neutral, appeared to support her.

Deacon noted that Ekene’s mother was the only person who made genuine efforts to restore peace by reaching out to him directly.

He also revealed that he had created a movie project specifically for Ekene due to their close bond. However, the project experienced multiple delays after her wedding.

When she eventually agreed to participate on the condition that filming would take place in Asaba, he relocated his team and handled all logistics. To his dismay, he later learned that she had accepted another project scheduled for the same period, forcing him to halt production.

Although Deacon stated that Ekene later apologised while pregnant and they reconciled, he admitted the emotional damage had already been done.

Furthermore, he alleged that he faced intense online backlash fueled by misinformation, claiming that Ekene paid a blogger ₦200,000 to publish damaging stories about him. He also recalled that she had questioned his decision to marry his wife during his proposal period.

Despite everything, Deacon Famous said he has forgiven her but cannot forget the emotional toll the situation has had on him and his family.

He stressed that his silence was a deliberate choice to preserve his marriage, but he has now decided to speak out so his side of the story is heard.
