The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed as false a social media claim that its Director‑General cancelled the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy and ordered parents to pay a compulsory GH¢1,500 for chop boxes and trunks.
In an official statement, signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, GES said the publication circulating online should be disregarded and emphasized that neither the Free SHS policy has been cancelled nor has the Director‑General issued any directive requiring parents or guardians to make payments for chop boxes, trunks or any other items.
The Service further noted that the Director‑General does not have the power to cancel a national policy. GES therefore urged parents, guardians, students and the general public not to make any payments to anyone in response to the social media claims.
GES asked the public to rely only on official communications from the Service’s authorised channels and to treat unverified social media publications with caution.
The statement also appealed to media organizations and members of the public to stop creating, publishing or circulating false information that could cause unnecessary anxiety and confusion among parents, students and the wider public.
