The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) will begin daily road enforcement operations next week to remove unroadworthy vehicles from Ghana’s roads.

DVLA Chief Executive Officer, Julius Neequaye Kotey, said the intensified exercise is necessary to address the growing safety risks posed by vehicles that fail to meet required roadworthiness standards.

Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, August 16, 2026, Mr Kotey said DVLA compliance officers would move from the previous limited enforcement schedule to daily operations across the country.

“Next week, our compliance guys are going to be on our roads and it is not going to be the two days norm, everyday they will be on our roads,” he said.

The enforcement teams will inspect several aspects of vehicles, including window tints, tyre conditions and brake pads, as part of efforts to ensure that only roadworthy vehicles operate on public roads.

The DVLA will also deploy available technology to identify suspected cloned vehicles and vehicles being used on Ghanaian roads without the payment of required duties. Mr Kotey further warned Private Vehicle Testing Stations (PVTS) against issuing roadworthiness certificates to vehicles that do not meet the prescribed standards.

He said the Authority would trace and investigate any testing station whose certification was found to have been issued to an unroadworthy vehicle, with closure among the possible sanctions.

“If there are PVTS that have issued roadworthy to cars and we see the cars and they are not cars that are good to be on our roads, we will investigate and know which PVTS and we will close it down,” he said.

Mr Kotey appealed to motorists and the general public to support the enforcement exercise, stressing that removing unsafe vehicles from the roads was necessary to protect road users.

“Now that we are all seeing the bad effects of cars that are not roadworthy being on our roads, I think the public will be in support when we start taking them off our roads,” he said.
