The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected new regional chairmen in a number of regions, with Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) and Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye emerging among the most prominent winners in the party's regional executive elections.

The elections, held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, form part of the NPP's ongoing reorganisation following its defeat in the 2024 general election and are expected to strengthen the party's grassroots structures ahead of the 2028 elections.

In the Ashanti Region, COKA secured a decisive victory, polling 658 votes to defeat former Bantama Member of Parliament and former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Chief Executive Officer, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, who obtained 269 votes.

COKA had expressed strong confidence ahead of the contest, saying he expected to secure at least 90 per cent of the delegates' votes. His victory now gives him a mandate to lead the NPP's structures in the region, which remains a key electoral stronghold for the party.

In the Bono Region, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, retained his position as regional chairman after polling 201 votes in a five-candidate contest.

His victory gives him another term to coordinate the party's regional activities, strengthen constituency structures and mobilise the NPP's grassroots base as the party prepares for future electoral contests.

In Greater Accra, former Health Minister Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye recorded another decisive victory, securing 490 votes against Alfred Boye's 172 votes.

Dr Okoe-Boye assumes leadership at a particularly challenging time for the NPP in the region. The party's parliamentary representation in Greater Accra fell from 14 seats to five following the 2024 general election, increasing pressure on the new regional leadership to rebuild the party's support base.

The provisional results declared by Electoral Commission officials who supervised the elections also put Jeff Konadu Addo in the Eastern Region, Joseph Kobinah Esibu in the Central Region and Robert Sarfo Mensah in the Ahafo Region among the regional chairmen-elect.

Other reported winners include Ignatius Kwasi Afrifa in the Western Region, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana in Savannah, Mohammed Baatima Adam (Samba) in Northern, Alhaji Mohammed Fuseini in North East, Elvis Awonekai (Figo) in Upper East, Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman in Upper West, Makafui Kofi Woanya in Volta, Dr Frank Yirenkyi in Oti and Ibrahim Bukari Baba in Bono East.

The newly elected chairmen will be expected to strengthen party unity, improve grassroots mobilisation and coordinate constituency-level activities as the NPP seeks to rebuild its electoral fortunes ahead of the 2028 general election. Their performance will be closely watched as the party seeks to translate the reorganisation into stronger structures and improved electoral performance.
