The Ashanti Central District Police Command on August 14, secured the conviction and sentencing of 22-year-old Christian Owusu for robbery in Kumasi.
According to a police statement, the victim reported that on July 21, 2026, at about 12:21pm, while she was heading towards Konkromase Township, she was threatened and robbed of her handbag, which contained her personal effects and cash.
Following investigations into the incident, Christian Owusu was arrested on August 4, 2026 and subsequently brought before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on August 7, 2026, presided over by His Lordship Mr Kwaku Baah Frimpong.
The accused was charged with robbery and pleaded guilty to the charge.
He was consequently convicted on his own plea. Before sentence was passed, Christian Owusu pleaded with the court for forgiveness.
However, after considering his plea, the court sentenced him to a minimum term of ten (10) years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
The statement, signed by Goodwin Ahianyo, Superintendent of Police and Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Region, said the convict was subsequently handed over to the authorities of the Kumasi Central Prison to commence his sentence.
