The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Central Regional Chairman, Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu, has apologised to Obaatanpa Radio and the media over the alleged attack on the station’s premises.
Speaking to the media, he said his visit to the Obaatanpa Radio premises was not intended to disrupt programmes but to engage with management, though the absence of managers led to a misunderstanding.
“In fact my mission for going to Obaatanpa was never to disrupt their programmes because that is unethical and unconstitutional, it was just to engage management but the absence of management meeting us turned chaotic and brought about some misunderstanding.
“As human nature it's bound to happen and so therefore I stand in as the leader of the region and apologise to Obaatanpa,” he stated.
Dr Asiedu noted that he owns an FM station that has been operating for more than 11 years and is therefore familiar with the laws and constitutions that govern journalism.
He further apologised to media houses across the country and to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for the incident, and urged the media to practise responsible journalism.
"I own an FM station that has been operational for more than 11 years and I know the constitutions of journalism, how it govern it and how it go by issues, we have to cut this thing short by rendering an apology to that of GJA and media space.
"By so doing I also want to plead with media houses not in Central Region alone but the whole country to practice what I call responsible journalism," he said.
