Showboy arrested over alleged blackmail claims after psychiatric clearance

Ghanaian social media personality Showboy has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in connection with alleged blackmail and cyber harassment involving Davido GH.

According to reports, Showboy turned himself in to the police earlier today following allegations of blackmail. Due to concerns raised by authorities over what was described as “abnormal” behaviour, he was referred for a psychiatric evaluation.

The assessment later confirmed that he is mentally and medically fit.

The arrest follows an earlier incident last week in which Showboy was taken into custody to assist with investigations. A video that has since gone viral shows him resisting arrest during a TikTok livestream, sparking widespread public attention.

At the time, the Ghana Police Service had not disclosed the specific reasons for his arrest, noting that an official statement would be issued.

Subsequently, it emerged that Showboy is accused of engaging in harassment, blackmail, and cyberbullying over a period of three years, according to a filed report. While the allegations remain under investigation, the case is now pending further legal processes.

If found guilty, Showboy could face significant penalties under Ghana’s laws, including:

"Blackmail: up to 10 years in prison

"Cyber harassment or cyberbullying: up to 5 years in prison, a fine, or both, under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038)
