Lawyers ask how Dennis Miracles Aboagye will pay GH¢50m bail

By: Nana Ofori

Lawyers of Dennis Miracles Aboagye have questioned how their client is going to pay the GH¢50 million bail term.

Speaking to the media at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), lead counsel Samuel Atta Akyea, emphasized that the bail conditions imposed on Aboagye after his arrest are effectively impossible to meet on short notice.

EOCO granted him bail at GH¢50 million with three sureties, two of whom must produce property as security, terms Akyea described as onerous.

“How will he be released? How will he post GH¢50 million in bail, with three sureties, two of them justified? Where do you even find properties worth GH¢50 million overnight?” he asked.

Aboagye, an aide to New Patriotic Party flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was arrested by EOCO at Kotoka International Airport.

EOCO says the arrest is linked to an ongoing probe into alleged financial and procurement irregularities totalling about GH¢55 million during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

He was detained alongside the committee’s former accountant, Gerald Appiah, who is also implicated in the same investigation.
