The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tema West has vetted 22 aspirants for various constituency positions, including four candidates vying for the chairmanship.
The positions being contested include chairman, first and second vice-chairman, secretary, assistant secretary, women’s organiser, youth organiser, NASARA organiser, communications officer and treasurer.
Ebenezer Nartey, the National Representative for the constituency election, told the media that out of 33 aspirants, 22 were vetted, including those contesting the chairmanship. He urged aspirants to refrain from insults and personal attacks in order to promote unity and stability within the party.
Aspiring Tema West Constituency Chairman Ibrahim Kelvin Iddrisu stressed the need for change in the leadership race.
He said his aim is to mobilise the grassroots and bring transparency and discipline to the party, and he called on delegates to vote for him based on his commitment to the grassroots.
"We started from the polling station to the level of the constituency. What I'm bringing on board are three things, discipline, transpirancy and grassroots mobilisation, these are things that we're bringing on board to regain our seat and win power for Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia 2028.
"We can't say that those who started did not do well, they done well to some level but we feel that there should be a change, change of leadership.
"I think Tema West, we need a leader who will very transpriant and bring everyone together and we've seen a particular face from 1992 till date, it has been the face leading the affairs of Tema West.
"I think the youth of Tema West that started has followed the footsteps to see that no, we need to change the narrative in Tema West. People claims they're the owners of Tema West but Tema West to NPP and NPP belongs to Tema West," he said.
He added that the youth of Tema West are determined to change the narrative in the constituency.
