South African pop sensation Tyla emerged as one of the standout victors at the 2026 Grammy Awards, clinching the Best African Music Performance accolade and further solidifying her status on the global music stage.
The artist triumphed with her hit single "Push 2 Start," overcoming formidable competition from a field predominantly featuring Nigerian talents. Other contenders in the category included Burna Boy’s "Love," Davido’s "With You" featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid’s "Gimme Dat," along with "Hope & Love" by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.
The Best African Music Performance category, established to highlight African sounds on a global scale, once again underscored Nigeria’s strong representation, with Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr all receiving nominations. Despite the intense competition, Tyla’s entry stood out due to its international appeal and unique sound.
The 2026 victory marks Tyla’s second Grammy win in this category. She first made history in 2024 when her breakout single "Water" became the inaugural winner, a landmark achievement that helped elevate African music further into the international limelight.
