Nine persons, including Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, have been granted bail of GH¢500,000 each in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo.
The accused persons appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, where they were admitted to bail with two sureties each. The court ruled that the sureties need not justify the bail amount but must complete and sign a bail justification form.
The suspects are Israel Kwadwo Safo alias Akofena, Tamaklo Safo Jehosaphat, Kwabena Safo, Benjamin Amoakwa Sam, Badu Enock, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson.
All nine pleaded not guilty to five charges preferred against them by the prosecution.
The charges include the use and possession of offensive weapons, unlawful discharge of firearms in public, causing unlawful damage to property, and offences relating to the prohibition of vigilante groups.
The case arises from an alleged shooting incident involving the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
According to information before the court, the incident occurred during a ceremony involving Adwoa Safo's brother, Kwadwo Safo, at Kwabenya.
Prosecutors are continuing investigations into the matter and are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting as well as the role allegedly played by each of the accused persons.
The court is expected to resume proceedings as the prosecution presents further evidence in the case.
